The probation system is an important component of community-based corrections that aims to rehabilitate offenders while allowing them to remain within their families and communities. Effective probation supervision may contribute to behavioral change, social reintegration, and the reduction of repeated offending. This study examines the effectiveness of the probation system in reducing recidivism in Faisalabad, Pakistan. The study focuses on the experiences of probationers and explores the role of probation officers, counselling, rehabilitation opportunities, family support, vocational training, social stigma, peer influence, and community reintegration. A qualitative research approach was adopted, and data were collected through interviews with 20 probationers. Thematic analysis was used to identify major patterns and themes emerging from the participants' experiences. The findings indicate that effective supervision, counselling, family support, rehabilitation opportunities, and positive social relationships can facilitate successful reintegration. However, limited employment opportunities, social stigma, financial difficulties, negative peer influence, and weaknesses in rehabilitation services may create barriers to reintegration and increase the risk of reoffending. The study concludes that probation can play a significant role in reducing recidivism when supervision is combined with meaningful rehabilitation and social support. Strengthening probation services, improving vocational opportunities, and developing community-based reintegration programmes are recommended.
