Social Media Addiction, Insomnia, and Anxiety in Young Adults

This research is conducted to access the correlation of Social Networking Addiction with Insomnia and Anxiety in Young Adults. The objectives of this study was to find out the relationship of Social Media Addiction with insomnia and Anxiety , also aimed to find out the mean difference of study variables across demographic include Gender, age, family structure and Education. A correlational research design was utilized to fulfill the study objectives. N=150 students from 3 universities of Faisalabad, Punjab were selected. Data was collected through Questionnaire comprised in 4 parts, i.e. Demographics, Social Networking Addiction Scale (SNAS), Rosenberg Insomnia Scale (RIS) and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) to check the link of Social Media Addiction with Insomnia and Anxiety. Statistical Analysis was done by SPSS analysis software version 21. Relationship consistency among these variables was checked by applying Pearson Correlation. The results are there is positive correlation between Social Networking Addiction with Insomnia and Anxiety. Females have low SNA, insomnia and Anxiety then males. There are more SNAs then nuclear families among students from the same family. Level of insomnia is approximately same in both family structures but level of anxiety in students from Joint family is less than in nuclear family. Students from Urban area have slightly high SNA and Anxiety then students in rural areas. The mean score of insomnia is approximately the same.
