AI-based Large Language Model: The Precursor in Enhancing Student’s Communicative Skills

The rise of AI-based chatbots has gained exclusivity among students pursuing their undergraduate degrees. The LLM (Large Language Model) chatbots emerge as a focal point for reshaping the conventional learning and teaching methods. The study employs an experimental mixed-method design using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) questionnaire. A total of 45 students were selected for the study and responded to the TAM survey questionnaire as a pre and post-test intervention. Students also delivered a five-minute presentation before and after the treatment intervention. For the qualitative phase, eight teachers participated in semi-structured interviews. Additionally, the study's findings were revealed from the interview data, which supported the outcomes of quantitative results. The connection between the quantitative and qualitative findings of the study highlighted that the LLM chatbots have significantly enhanced the student's oral communication skills. Additionally, the study provided an in-depth understanding that AI-based learning models contribute to shifting traditional teaching and communication into modern AI-based language models. The study recommends that the LLM chatbots support students in proofreading to improve their conversational skills and contribute to improving their English fluency.
