This study examined the use of ChatGPT in research at the higher education level, focusing on its uses, benefits, and effectiveness. A descriptive survey design was used, and data were collected from 144 randomly selected 8th-semester students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Kotli, AJ&K. A validated five-point Likert scale questionnaire was administered, and the data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, and mean through SPSS. The findings showed that students widely use ChatGPT as a supportive tool in research and demonstrate a generally positive attitude toward its ethical use. However, limited concern was observed regarding citation issues and overconfidence in AI-generated content. The study concludes that while ChatGPT is helpful in research, greater ethical awareness and guided use are necessary to ensure responsible and balanced application.
