The Nushki District in Balochistan, Pakistan is vulnerable to multiple types of multi-hazard risks that threaten the socio-economic stability of the local population through flood, drought, earthquake, and other hazards exacerbated by political instability and weak infrastructure. Through an analysis of historical disaster data and existing socio-economic conditions for the district, this review highlights key areas where enhanced disaster risk management (DRM) frameworks tailored to the specific challenges of Nushki District are necessary and how a participatory approach in DRM policy formulation is needed in order to adequately respond to local needs and strengthen community resilience. Additionally, gaps in institutional capacities have been identified with a call for integrated strategies to promote sustainable practices, empower local communities, and improve adaptive capacities as critical elements that should be implemented to reduce the disaster risk and impacts on the Nushki District.
