Integration of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Academic Libraries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Current Trends and Future Prospects

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the existing state, readiness, and future possible of Artificial Intelligence (AI) implementation in academic libraries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan. It explores in what way AI can improve library facilities, functioning competence, and decision-making proficiencies.

Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative research method was employed by means of organized questionnaires disseminated to library managers, supervisors, and IT professionals transversely several universities in KP. The study is grounded in the Diffusion of Revolution concept and the Technological-Organizational-Environmental (TOE) outline.

Findings: Outcomes indicate increasing awareness of AI tools such as smart exploration engines, computer-generated reference facilities, and recommendation structures. Conversely, implementation is insufficient due to inadequate infrastructure, nonexistence of technical training, inadequate funding, and nonexistence of institutional strategies. Concerns over profession displacement and data confidentiality additional hinder development.

Research limitations: The study is limited to public academic libraries in KP, and broader generalization may necessitate presence of private organizations and other regions.

Practical implications: Recommendations include incorporating AI into LIS curricula, professional development, policy formulation, and fostering institutional collaboration.

Originality/value: This study delivers foundational understanding addicted to AI integration in academic libraries of a emerging area, contribution strategic method for legislatures and library professionals.
