This research paper analyzes how Generation Z learns about politics through social media and understands the effects it has on their civic engagement and political understanding. The research explores the platforms Gen Z uses for news about politics, how being on social media changes their political involvement, and if spending time online makes them more active in society. Twenty people aged 18-25 who use political content on social media were chosen, using purposive sampling with an online questionnaire that included questions on their demographics, the platforms they use, their knowledge of politics, and how engaged they are in civic activities. Based on the findings, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter are the major sources of political news for most users and 80% say that being exposed to politics more online has raised their interest, yet only 25% always check their information from other places, indicating a great chance they might be tricked by incorrect news. It is clear from research that social media greatly promotes political involvement and participation for Gen Z, though the fact that information is not always verified causes difficulties for democracy and informed citizens.
