Abstract

Globalization has profoundly reshaped social, economic, and cultural landscapes worldwide, significantly influencing language dynamics. Among languages, English has emerged as the dominant global lingua franca, serving as a bridge for communication across diverse nations and cultures. This paper explores the multifaceted impact of globalization on the use of English, examining how global interconnectedness has expanded its reach, transformed its forms, and affected local linguistic ecologies. Through a comprehensive review of theoretical perspectives and empirical studies, the research highlights the emergence of new English varieties, the changing attitudes toward English worldwide, and the challenges posed to indigenous languages and identities. The study also investigates the roles of technology, education, and international institutions in shaping English use today. Findings reveal a complex interplay between language globalization and cultural diversity, underscoring the need for balanced language policies that embrace both global communication and local language preservation. This paper contributes to a deeper understanding of how English functions in a globalized world and offers insights for educators, policymakers, and linguists navigating this evolving linguistic landscape.
