This study developed a human-centered artificial intelligence (AI) framework for teaching and learning in higher education by integrating pedagogical, technological, ethical, and institutional dimensions into a comprehensive model. The framework was designed to support the responsible and effective use of AI while maintaining the central role of educators and learners in the educational process. A qualitative research design was employed to examine existing literature, policy documents, and established theoretical perspectives on AI integration, human-centered learning, digital pedagogy, and responsible AI. The collected evidence was systematically analysed to identify the core principles and components required for meaningful AI implementation in higher education. The analysis demonstrated that effective AI integration depended on human agency, ethical governance, digital competence, transparency, inclusivity, privacy protection, and continuous institutional support. These elements were synthesized into an integrated framework that emphasized collaboration between educators, students, and AI technologies while promoting academic integrity, learner engagement, critical thinking, and personalized learning. The framework also highlighted the importance of institutional policies, professional development, and ongoing evaluation to ensure sustainable AI adoption. By placing human values, educational objectives, and ethical considerations at the centre of AI implementation, the framework provided a structured foundation for guiding teaching and learning practices in higher education. The study contributed to the growing body of knowledge on educational AI by offering a theoretically grounded and practically applicable framework that aligned technological innovation with pedagogical effectiveness and responsible educational practice. The proposed framework may serve as a valuable reference for researchers, policymakers, institutional leaders, and educators seeking to implement human-centered AI strategies that enhance educational quality while preserving the essential role of human judgment, collaboration, and meaningful learning experiences.
