Abstract

The transgender representation in media plays an important role in highlighting the societal perception and attitudes towards transgender. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the transgender representation in print media to examine the differences in the depiction of transgender people in Pakistani and International narratives. Moreover, it investigates the collocates related to transgender aiming to analyze the tone and semantic prosody to reveal the cultural attitudes, biases and social norms associated with trans and transgender by employing Leech and Short’ framework with corpus approach. The findings reveal that Dawn News presents both positive and negative image of Pakistani society which is true to the facts while Daily Mail focuses more on the positive aspects and downplays the challenges which are faced by transgender individuals in British context. Thus, this study is significant in examining the role of media in constructing Trans -narratives and issues framed nationally and internationally.
