The exploratory research study aims to assess the viability of carpooling for employees to commute to and from work in urban cities of Pakistan. The study begins with an introduction of carpooling, its historical presence, and an identification of the lack of research on the topic done for employees in Pakistan. The research methodology includes a quantitative analysis through the floatation of a survey/questionnaire, which will get followed by a qualitative analysis through the conduction of direct interviews with the working population, to confirm the results from the quantitative data collected. Based on the findings of the exploratory research study, an assessment of whether carpooling can be a viable mode of commuting for employees in Pakistan or not has been done. This assessment is done by identifying the factors that motivate people to carpool, and factors that act as barriers to carpooling. Further analysis is conducted to know whether the motivations outpower the barriers, or vice versa, to ultimately assess the viability of carpooling for employees in Pakistan. The study concludes with a presentation of the summary of the analysis conducted which backs that in the current unstable economic times, carpooling may be expected to gain popularity as a mode of communication but it may not maintain sustainability, owing to the barriers overpowering the motivations to carpool.
