This study examines the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on critical thinking and writing skills in higher education. AI technologies have become increasingly integrated into academic environments, but their effect on students' cognitive abilities, particularly in writing and critical thinking, remains underexplored. A quantitative approach was adopted, with a sample size of 200 students from four universities: two public and two private institutions. Fifty students were selected from each university, ensuring diversity in both academic settings. The study explored students' perceptions of critical thinking and writing proficiency using AI intervention through surveys. The findings indicate that while AI tools improve writing efficiency, their impact on enhancing critical thinking skills is more limited, with variations observed between public and private universities. The results suggest that AI when integrated thoughtfully, can support the development of writing skills but requires additional frameworks to foster deeper critical thinking. This study provides valuable insights into how AI can be leveraged in educational contexts to balance skill development.
