In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, numerous libraries globally are prioritizing the enhancement of their customer service strategies. This study focuses on the transition process of the Engr. Abul Kalam Library (EAKL) at NED University of Engineering & Technology from an indigenous software library management system (LMS) implemented in 2002 to the open-source Integrated Library System (ILS), KOHA. This case study narratively outlines the systematic approach undertaken to implement KOHA at EAKL. Advancement in computer systems and technology forced us to find latest software to cover up our day to day integration issues in existing system. A systematic approach adopted to find our software need and finalized KOHA Open source Software as solution. In the preliminary phase, KOHA was installed on a testing basis on specific systems. Various modules and features were evaluated to ensure alignment with EAKL's requirements. Based on the testing results and insights gained from planned visits to other higher education institutions (HEIs) already utilizing similar software, a strategy was formulated to deploy KOHA live on the server. This study serves as a valuable resource for other HEI libraries aiming to enhance their automation processes and considering KOHA as a viable software option.
