Retention of Death Penalty: A Comparative Analysis of China and Pakistan

Abstract

The use of the death sentence is a contentious topic in several countries. After implementing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, many countries have successfully abolished the death penalty or placed it under a moratorium. China and Pakistan are the two countries that continue to carry out executions as their capital punishment. China and Pakistan both have a long history of using the death sentence. It was considered that putting individuals to death was the most effective way to reduce the amount of crime in both the countries. This article will provide the reasons for the retention of the death penalty in China and Pakistan.
