Back Ground: English language is an Indo-European language. English is widely considered the standard language in a wide variety of fields, including communication, medical, computer coding, international business, and higher education. English is also a barrier of communication for nursing students because of their native language. Objective: To assess understanding of undergraduate nursing students whether they considered English language as a barrier of communication. Methods and Materials: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 100 randomly selected under graduate nursing students using a self-administered, structured questionnaire. The study was carried out from February 2023 to March 2023 involving undergraduate nursing students who were studied at College of Nursing AFPGMI. Data was collected through self-structured questionnaire from 100 undergraduate nursing students who were studying at College of Nursing AFPGMI. An informed written consent was obtained from all the selected participants. Data was collected through a self-developed structured questionnaire. Participants were requested to respond on the basis of their own opinions and understanding to each question. The collected data was analyzed through SPSS version 26. To summarize the results the data was presented in the form of percentages and frequencies. Results This study investigated the utilization of the English language and its impact on 2nd/3rd-year nursing students. The results demonstrated that nursing students' usage of English was competent, but due to their disparate educational backgrounds, they saw the English language as a barrier to communication. Nursing courses typically consist of lectures with slide presentations, which may have slightly improved their English listening and reading skills. Conclusion: English is a universal language that everyone can understand and recognize, whether they are using it as their first or second language. Being fluent in English has been determined to be essential for a better career, as well as a significant benefit in terms of knowledge, social standing, and global communication.
