The Livelihood Diversification of Farmers in the Peri Urban Communities: A Study of District Faisalabad

Abstract

The present research was designed to investigate the livelihood diversification of farmers in peri-urban communities in the Faisalabad district, with the main aim of describing the changing patterns of land use and occupation in peri-urban territories. Socially significant features in the peri-urban territories and changing patterns attributed to the livelihood diversification of farmers were studied. The study was quantitative in nature and found occupational changes in the peri-urban areas. Moreover, the study examined the impact of livelihood diversification on peri-urban communities. For this purpose, 4 communities Samundari Road, Jaranwala Road, Shaikhupura Road, and Sargoda Road of Peri Urban areas in the Faisalabad region. The samples were selected using a simple random sampling process. From each selected area, 30 respondents were selected using systematic sampling techniques, and the sample size was 120. The respondents under consideration in the current study were residents of Peri Urban Areas in the Faisalabad region. The data were collected through a face-to-face survey using the interview schedule as a data collection tool, which was prepared in light of the research objectives. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The data were analyzed using SPSS. Univariate and Bivariate data analysis techniques, including chi-square and gamma test frequencies, were used to analyze the data. The data showed livelihood diversification of farmers in the peri-urban communities in Faisalabad.
