Effect of Career Choice on Achievement Goal Orientation of Prospective Teachers Mediated by Demographic Variables

Abstract

This research has explored how career choice influences achievement goal orientation among future teachers with special emphasis on how demographic variables (in terms of area, parent qualification, and parent occupation) mediate. Based on a sample of future teachers, it was established that career preferences influence the objectives that people establish to themselves in the teaching profession. The research design was causal comparative. The study sample was chosen using a multistage random sampling method that included 376 future teachers in two state and two private universities in Lahore. Data analysis was performed based on proper statistical methods. The IBM (24) Trial Version was used in the analysis of the data. Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), inferential statistics, t-test, and ANOVA were used to analyse the data. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to evaluate the mediating effect of demographic variables using AMOS software. The research indicates that the career choice is more influential on the achievement goals. It's interesting to note that demographics had a largely hidden mediating effect. Future research delving deeper into these interactions and exploring how career aspirations and achievement goals evolve can provide valuable insights for supporting the success of future educators.
