Abstract

This study focuses on the enhancement capacity of SMEs to exports by utilizing the research management for sustainable development. How restricting the traditionaries activities of research and development with research management for sustainable development can enhance their market share in the International markets. Qualitative research approach has been used by collecting the data through in-depth interview conducted by 30 Professionals working in different SMEs of Pakistan which were selected through purposive sampling method. The Data was analyzed through thematic analysis.  This study concludes that SMEs can enhance their exports by restricting the traditional approach of research and development with the research management for sustainable development. The findings of this study enrich the conceptual advances in SMEs development, sustainable development, and research management literature streams. There are policy implications and managerial implications as well as theoretical implications for scholars who are interested in the extant literature of exporting SMEs and sustainable development goals. From this paper, one gets a cross-disciplinary view of how research management affects SMEs exports and sustainable development, which is a benefit of cross-disciplinary work.
