Abstract

Comprehending the influence of conflicts on a country's socioeconomic development is crucial. Governments must devise efficient strategies to mitigate the detrimental consequences of conflicts. We examined the correlations between conflict and multiple developmental results, including growth in the economy, longevity, and academic achievement. We utilized a dynamic static effect approximation to analyze an autoregressive distributed lag theory. The analysis was conducted by employing data collected from panels from 1996 to 2020, encompassing 109 nations. The results of the study show that an increase in conflict has a detrimental effect on economic expansion. Violence harms the revenue of all kinds of countries, whether high-income or low-income. Meanwhile, the severity of conflict has a substantial effect on low-income countries but an insignificant impact on upper-middle-income countries. By minimizing the naturally occurring impacts of this kind of violence and conflict, our strategy allowed us to discern the distinct short- and long-term effects of war on growth. Investigations that examined smaller samples based on nations' economic status yielded intriguing findings: states with higher incomes have shown a diminished significance of detrimental impacts from conflict on their socioeconomic status.
